Time to make your voice heard!

Over the coming months you will be receiving informational emails from M.E.B.A. to better assist you in making an informed decision about which Union can best represent you and get you the contract that you deserve.

The Union election ballots will be mailed to you on June 12, 2024. Completed ballots must be returned to the Tampa NLRB office by October 22, 2024 where they will be counted and your future representation will be determined. During this voting period we encourage you to ask questions  - either by email or by speaking with M.E.B.A. representatives when they attend the vessel. You can also pass along questions through the engineers on board who will share those directly with us. You should also take some time to visit our website www.mebaorganizing.com. As part of the election process, the Company will have to provide all parties with contact information for all its employees. That means you will soon be getting information from us directly to your email. As always, our goal is to provide you with the facts so you can make an informed decision about your future.

Some items of note that cannot be overstressed are as follows.

• M.E.B.A. has an existing relationship with OSG.  We can use this relationship to bring OSG to the negotiating table and get you the best contract you deserve.
• In order for you to begin getting any seniority status in the union, a contract will need to be reached, and no matter how attractive a particular status might be, if that union doesn’t have any leverage to compel the company to the bargaining table you will be in limbo waiting for a result.
• With M.E.B.A. representation, working conditions and pay will increase, especially with a combined bargaining unit of Deck and Engine Officers.  
• With M.E.B.A. representation you will no longer work at the behest of the Company and subject to their every whim, you will have a say in where and when you work.
• With M.E.B.A. representation you will no longer have to pay out of your own pocket to take courses to upgrade and maintain your license and hope to get reimbursed years later if at all.

Over the coming months, you will receive lots of information from all sides about your choice of Union representation. Ultimately, you will have to make a decision about who you believe will get you and your shipmates a new and higher paying contract. You need representation from a Union that is experienced in negotiating with OSG and one that is not afraid to stand up for its members’ rights and hold the Company to the letter of the contract when necessary.
