M.E.B.A. for every mate
April 3, 2024
As time continues to tick by waiting for the NLRB to make their decision, I hope all of you are taking this time to reflect on what is best for you, your family and those you sail with.
Those who wish to stay with OSG and desire to make your work place better for the collective:
- Ask yourself one question: Is my bargaining power stronger united with the Engine Department or divided?
- OSG is already part of all the M.E.B.A. plan benefits, making a fair first contract attainable.
- Again, the pension will allow you to have a legitimate chance to retire after 20 years with an amount you can live on without supplement.
Those who just want to leave OSG and seek new employment, we believe M.E.B.A. is best for you:
- The strongest representation, fighting against companies attempting to unilaterally impose things like the COVID vaccine, something which is no longer a requirement on a majority of our contracts, job opportunities.
- Deck officer jobs on Container ships, Ro/Ro's, Con/Ro, Tankers, the only large American Flag Cruise Ship, every vessel in the other Union for those on the pass-through, ferries and more.
- Strongest pension: With over 250 deep sea deck officer jobs in the Union, you will have your selection of vessels to build a pension in which you can live on after 20 years.
Those who want nonunion but just don’t know better:
- When you started as a third mate did you get 70% of your wages because you were only working 70% as hard?
- Do you think it’s reasonable that you had/have to pay for training out of your pocket?
- Shadow chief mates: Are you okay getting paid second mate wages while shadow first engineers receive first engineer wages?
- Are you okay with your CEO wanting to stifle the labor market demand by adding foreign mariners into the licensed officer labor pool?
I hope all of you choose to vote for M.E.B.A.
While the above applies to everyone, these are not the only reasons why M.E.B.A. is the best choice.
Do not hesitate to reach out! It has been a pleasure to answer all of your questions and we are ready to begin representing you.
